The permanent magnetic suspension iron remover is mounted above the belt conveyor and is responsible for removing iron scraps and bolts mixed into the quartz sand. After one or two years of use, many customers find that the iron-absorbing effect is far worse than before—iron pieces above the belt still travel downstream. When dismantled and measured, the magnetic field strength on the magnet surface is considerably lower than when the machine was new. The cause of weakened suction usually lies in magnetic circuit loss and installation parameters.

If iron scraps adsorbed on the magnet surface are not cleaned for a long time, the magnetic force is gradually "smothered" and weakened. If the iron scraps captured by the iron remover are not discharged in time, they accumulate thicker and thicker on the magnetic pole surface, forming a magnetic short circuit. The magnetic field lines close inside the iron scrap layer, and the magnet itself remains overloaded for a long time; over time, the magnetic domain direction gradually deflects. Cleaning the iron discharge port once per shift and keeping the magnetic pole surface clean is more effective than any remedial measure. If iron scraps are found to pile up into lumps and cannot be discharged, it indicates that the magnetic short circuit is already severe, and the machine must be stopped for manual cleaning.

Excessive suspension height is the most common installation problem causing insufficient suction. The magnetic force of a permanent magnetic iron remover decays sharply with increasing distance; when the suspension height increases from 150 mm to 250 mm, the magnetic force at the bottom of the material layer may be less than 30% of the original. Measure the distance from the upper surface of the belt to the bottom face of the magnetic pole and keep it between 150 and 200 mm. After adjustment, conduct an iron-absorption test on site: place a few iron nuts on the belt and observe whether they can be picked up. If they cannot be picked up, the height needs to be lowered further.

If the material layer is too thick, the magnetic force cannot reach iron pieces at the bottom. When the material layer exceeds 80 mm, iron scraps buried at the bottom are difficult to extract. Install a leveling plate or distributor before the iron remover to control the material layer thickness at 50–80 mm. When increasing the feed rate, give priority to widening the belt or reducing the belt speed; do not rely on piling up the material layer to make up the output.

During routine inspections, use a gaussmeter to measure the magnetic field strength on the magnet surface once per quarter. When it drops by more than 20% from the initial value, the seal and the state of the magnetic blocks need to be checked by dismantling.
