After two or three years of operation, the trommel screen's cylinder wobbles more and more noticeably, a dull knocking sound comes from where the riding ring contacts the support rollers, and screening performance deteriorates accordingly. The problem is most likely riding ring wear. The riding ring is the force-transmitting component between the cylinder and the support rollers; as it wears, the fit clearance increases, the cylinder loses stable support during rotation, and the wobble naturally grows.

Once riding ring wear exceeds a quarter of the original thickness, the wobble can no longer be suppressed. The riding ring continuously bears the full weight of the cylinder and material, and its contact surface with the support rollers undergoes constant friction, so its thickness gradually decreases. After wear, the ring's cross-section deforms and its roundness drops, its contact surface with the support rollers no longer fits evenly, and the cylinder wobbles once per revolution. It is recommended to measure the ring thickness at multiple points around its circumference with calipers every quarter, and schedule replacement when wear exceeds a quarter of the original thickness. Replacing the riding ring requires a special fixture to slightly lift the cylinder; after removing the old ring, clean the mating surface, hot-fit the new ring into place, and check its fit with the cylinder after cooling.
Excessive clearance between the support rollers and the riding ring also aggravates wobble. Normal clearance should be kept between 0.5 and 1 mm. When clearance is too large, the cylinder shifts on the support rollers and the wobble amplitude multiplies. Adjust the positioning bolts of the support roller brackets to bring the clearance within the standard range. All four support rollers must be adjusted synchronously to ensure even loading. After adjustment, re-check the cylinder axis with a level, keeping deviation within 1 mm.
Loose riding ring fastening bolts are another cause of wobble. The riding ring is usually made of two halves bolted to the cylinder. When the bolts loosen, relative sliding occurs between the ring and the cylinder, and wobble follows. Check the fastening bolts once a month and tighten them evenly in a diagonal sequence. If bolt holes are deformed or threads are stripped, ream the holes and fit oversized bolts.
During routine inspections, watch whether the cylinder runs smoothly; when wobble worsens, troubleshoot in the order of "first measure riding ring thickness, then adjust support roller clearance, finally check fastening bolts."
